Models and a Petition

The new models for the rerelease of the books have been revealed and it's causing something of a stir within the Animorphs community. In the books, Marco is explicitly described as being half-Hispanic, with darker skin and hair. The model chosen however, is white. Nezumi9 asked us to pass on the message and to tell our members about a petition to change it. Her original message is below.

"As you probably know, the new cover models for the re-release have just been posted www.scholastic.com/animorphs/c… and we on the LJ Animorphs community think that the Marco model doesn't fit his character's description at all. I've created a petition to change it www.ipetitions.com/petition/ma… and I was wondering if you could post a blog entry about it? Any signatures are really appreciated and I'd love your help. ^_^"

He's not too bad. He actually looks cute. But if you ask me it reminds me of Ax's human morph.

Well, they all look too old, but I expected that. Seriously, though. Marco looks nothing like MarcoO_O. What the hell with the short curly hair, too? The longish hair was even in the books. And yeah, I can't imagine white Marco. I will signXD.

They sort of changed Tobias too, but it's more manageable than Marco. i definitely had to sign this petition, let's see if they recognize the importance and change his appearance.
(i personally liked the characters as they were in the tv shows and used them as reference in the books.lol)

Honestly, why don't these people just *read* the books? Even just reading one of them would drastically improve the accuracy of these character depictions. It's not like it takes horribly long to read one of those books... :/ mer.

I clicked on the link and i was all "NOOOO MARCO" but then i noticed the whole site and i was like "Oooooh shin- OMG CASSIE Heckyus".

Well, Tobias at least has lighter hair than me this time. I'm a REALLY dark brunette, and the 90s Tobias had hair about the same shade as me. That definitely wasn't dirty blond. This time it's at least semi-passable.

As for Jake, I don't mind him having light hair. At least he looks like he could be related to the Rachel model. It's not perfect, but it's something I could live with.

The Marco model though.... His skin is maybe a shade or two darker than the white characters. It's not the contrast the original model had, and I definitely wouldn't know he was supposed to be half hispanic if I weren't already a fan of the books.

Much ApologiesHey all!
So this group has been super inactive for quite some time and for that I sincerely apologize. I personally haven't been on dA nearly as often as I was a couplefew years ago. And I suspect the same is true for most of the other admins, though I really can't speak for them.
Anyway, I'm currently organizing the gallery into folders so people can have an easier time finding the things they're looking for. Recent submissions will still go to the featured folder and then later moved to their appropriate home.
I've also turned down the number of votes needed to get deviations approved for submission, so hopefully the process will go more quickly. Unfortunately, this group has a history of receiving submissions that have nothing at all to do with Animorphs, so the approval system is still necessary.
I'm also gonna start being in the chat room  again, when I'm available.

Apologies and ContestPlease accept my apologies for not being here when I should have been. Life just caught up with me, and I couldn't keep up. Well, now that is over! The contest that I proposed months ago will be split into two main groups. One section will be written literature, and the other will be the visual art. It is up to you to come up with your own original idea. It just must follow the following rules/guidelines. You may do photomanips, poems, stories, vector art, emoticons; anything you can come up with that CAN be submitted to DeviantArt AND this group.
Rules:
1.) No pornography.
2.) No profanity.
3.) There is only one submission per person.
4.) All submissions must be themed HEAVILY to the Animorphs book series, t.v. show, etc.
4.) You must at least watch this group or be a member to participate.
5.) You must have created every aspect of your submissions. No material outside of what you own 100% copyright to may be used!
6.) Any submission not following these rules will be disqualified!

Competition ProposalI thought it might be nice if we had a competition of sorts. It has been several years since the Deviant Group has had one. Although, the problem with having one would be that we don't have anything to offer as a prize to those who participate. It would help if a few people could volunteer free art commissions or subscriptions to the winner(s). The contest could be nearly anything from a morph contest to a contest about the different weaponry and spacecraft from the series. This contest is about you guys, remember that. I want this contest to be held by what you guys want it to be about. Post your ideas below in the comments and I'll see about holding a vote on the best ones.

Collective Feature #20Updates:
 Firstly, I want to thank the anonymous user who gave me a 3-month Premium Membership. I don't use the features much, but I like the journal themes, so thank you! :D 
 Secondly, I wanted to thank everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday! Being at college, nothing excited happened except classes and work, but I did get to help out at a dodgeball tournament our club hosted, so that was kinda fun. 
 Thirdly, who else enjoyed the 70=80 degree temperatures and gorgeous weather on Friday + Saturday? Cause I know I did! It was short lived (back to rainy, windy, and cool) but I hope you all made the most of it! I drove up to Teatown Reservation to see if there was any growth, but there was very few. They opened up their "Wildflower Island" to the public and I hope to go back in a couple of weeks when things begin to grow more.

In all seriousness, I wanna start to make commissions. After talking to Alyssa (walkingmelons on youtube) about prices, I'm leaning towards following her policy. So if you want to commission me here are some details:
A fully colored digital drawing (like this one): $40 (may charge extra if there are more than 2 characters)
A fully colored digital drawing only focusing on the upper body part: $30
Since I'm just starting with the commission thing I wanna take it slowly and patiently, maybe in a future I'll be able to draw only sketched or simple colored drawings which will be cheaper, but for now I'll focus on what I know I can do better. If you are interested, send me a note named "Commission" and then add what you want. I'm thinking I can only take maybe 2 commissions per week to get started, when I get the hang of it I'll probably be able to take more in.
